Enhancing Email Account Security: Webmail Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Training

To further strengthen campus cybersecurity and ensure secure communication for faculty and staff, the Computer Center organized an educational training session on “Webmail Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Overview and Implementation” on April 24, 2026 (Thursday), from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, conducted in two sessions. The course was led by Teaching Assistant Huang Jia-hung from the Computer Center, aiming to help colleagues address increasingly severe online threats and safeguard their personal email accounts.
The training focused on explaining the two-factor authentication mechanism introduced into the email system. In addition to requiring passwords of at least 10 characters that include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, the system now incorporates one-time passwords (OTP) generated by Google Authenticator for login. This enhancement is designed to improve email account security and effectively prevent unauthorized access by hackers.
During the training, the instructor guided participants through hands-on practice, including scanning QR codes with a mobile app to bind accounts and using six-digit dynamic verification codes that refresh every 30 seconds to complete login authentication. The course also introduced the “Trusted Devices” setting, allowing colleagues to balance convenience and security when using recognized devices. Facing potential cyber threats, establishing correct data protection practices is crucial. The university will continue to offer cybersecurity courses in the future, with the goal of helping faculty and staff feel more secure in both administrative and research work, while jointly safeguarding campus information security.
